Tap and Jazz Dance Tutor
Keryn started her dancing career at an early age and included tap, jazz, highland, ballet and hip hop in her repertoire. She has obtained examination passes of the highest possible marks in tap, jazz and ballet. As a competitive dancer Keryn won Championship titles throughout New Zealand and Australia, including 5 gold medals at the Fred Astaire Awards in Sydney. A highlight of Keryn’s competitive dancing was winning the New Zealand Championship National Awards in 1989. Theatre has also been a large part of Keryn’s dancing career. Keryn has performed in shows such as 42nd St and Choreographed many shows such as Singing in the Rain.
Keryn has also been a member of a cabaret troupe which toured the South Island and performed at numerous cabaret shows and events including the Queenstown Winter Festival. Keryn has gone on to become a teacher of dance with 20 years teaching experience and has taught dance as far afield as Sweden. She has passed her knowledge onto many talented students some of whom have now become teachers and studio owners themselves. She was the tap tutor at NASDA and also at St Margaret’s College. Keryn was a co-founder of the successful Impact Dance & Stage School which produced talented child performers who were accepted to perform in professional theatre groups such as the Court Theatre in Christchurch. She also ran her own studio, Starz Dance & Theatre Academy with a student role of approximately 200, and a teaching staff of 5 tutors.
As an adjudicator Keryn has adjudicated dancing competitions in New Zealand and also Australia from Novice competitions through to Championship and National Award events.
